OAU management reportedly orders demolition of mosques in halls of residence

The Obafemi Awolowo University management has demolished all mosques in halls of residence of the institution. 

 
A response to the unending crisis rocking the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria MSSN and Muslim community of the OAU.   
According to a student, who craved anonymity, the demolition by the University management is connected to the MSSN crisis and the community. 
He added that Muslim Umar of South Western Nigeria  MUSWEN backed the demolition. 
The demolition operation was said to have been led by the Chairman of Muslim Community, Professor. Aransi accompanied by University security personnel and carpenters.

Meanwhile, the Division of Students Affairs has  made special release that religious activities are henceforth banned in halls of residence and enjoined students to observe prayer in their rooms or praying ground provided by the University.

The Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Grace Akinola told our reporter in a phone conversation that the steps taken by the varsity is aimed at restoring normalcy to campus as regards imminent religion crisis.

This action however has raised a lot of controversies within the students and communities around. While some persons felt the action of the University is right, others condemned the action as they claimed it hinders right to free religious association, as embedded in the Nigerian constitution.
